Habits that Are Pushing Your Partner Away
Article

Couples need to be careful sometimes about certain habits they may be doing that can push a partner away. These habits usually cause no problem in the marriage if they are done infrequently, but when these become an unpleasant fact when dealing with you, they start to take their toll on your relationship.

No matter how deep you believe your love is, these habits can really be taxing on your partner and can lead you to push them away. Avoid the following habits or stop doing them if you are already are.

Criticism

Criticizing your partner’s behavior is not always bad, but it should be focused on letting your partner know how their behavior has made you feel. Criticizing or complaining about everything your partner says or does will surely push your partner away because no one likes to be berated all the time.

Not Responding to Complaints

One way to make your partner feel neglected is ignoring their complaints about something you do or a habit you have. When your partner constantly brings up a meaningful complaint, it probably means that this is important to them, so you need to respond to show that you care. Ignoring the complaint will eventually lead your partner to stop mentioning it, but that only means they have given up trying to get your attention and not that they are now okay with it.

Telling White Lies

White lies in a relationship are something that many people do without blinking an eye because most believe they are harmless. When white lies, however, get out of hand, your partner will begin to gradually feel unable to trust what you say, and this can severely damage a relationship.

Addiction

Any form of addiction that takes up most of your time and energy can push your partner away. Whether it is video games, binge-watching a show after another, or using your phone for long hours, it can be really damaging to a relationship because your partner will feel ignored.

Not Showing Empathy

Not being able to be there for your partner when they are going through an emotional turmoil can make them feel that you do not care. The importance of showing empathy and compassion for how your partner feels cannot be emphasized enough. Even if you do not know how to respond to what they are seeing, you can at least tell them that you are there for them and you are will to lend all the help you can.
